ORANGE, Calif. — Chapman women's water polo came back strong during their second game of the day to defeat Division I Santa Clara 11-10 at home Friday evening. The Panthers are hosting a portion of the Claremont Convergence Friday and Saturday at the Allred Aquatics Center, making this game the second of four they will play over the weekend.
Sophomore attacker
Nina Bastick had the game winning goal with Chapman and SCU tied at 10 with just two minutes left. Bastick attacked the goal from the right side of the pool off a pass from
Kendall Pappan. Bastick immediately caught the ball then fired it off to the back of the net to give Chapman a lead they would never relinquish.
Pappan also led the way for the Panthers offensively, netting five goals on just six shots and earning three ejections on the day. Fellow junior
Lyric Roddenberry contributed three assists to go along with a goal.
Defensively, All-American goalkeeper
Zoey Francis had 13 blocks, including a massive final few in the fourth quarter with the game tied on seperate occassions.
Chapman now sits at 5-6 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC play as they gear up to return to action on Saturday, Mar. 7 host day two of the Convergence and play against Carthage College and Mount St. Mary's (Md.).
