ORANGE, Calif. – The season came to an end for the Chapman University men's basketball team with a 93-64 loss to top-seeded Redlands in the SCIAC Tournament Championship Game. Jake Heberle and Cruz Billings each concluded their historic careers with 17 points.
A nationally-ranked Redlands squad shot 58.2 percent for the game and 54.5 percent from three-point range to run away with the tournament title. After Friday's historic effort, the Panthers shot 6-for-16 from three-point range in the title game.
Billings added five assists to his school record in his final game and Heberele added seven rebounds while improving his Chapman Division III era record 1636 career points.
The Panthers were able to stay within single digits through most of the first half but the Bulldogs pulled away with a 10-0 run over a two-minute span to push the lead up to 21 points early in the second half. Redlands had five players score in double figures.
Chapman's season comes to an end with an 18-9 overall record. The Panthers improved their record with four more wins in head coach Dan Krikorian's second season and advance in the SCIAC Tournament for the first time under his leadership.
