Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's volleyball defeats Vassar in four

The Panthers bounced back after dropping the first set.

ORANGE, Calif. – Sasha Pugh had 21 kills and Kaya Jedrzejczak provided a spark off the bench as the Chapman University women's volleyball team defeated visiting Vassar in four sets. The Panthers bounced back from a first set loss to take the match 24-26, 25-18, 25-12, 25-18.

Pugh continued to have a standout freshman season with her second 20-pluk kill match of the season. She hit .533 without committing an attacking error and came up with a pair of blocks, including one solo.

Angelina Solis added 10 kills while Sammy Chambers had 40 assists to go along with 10 digs. Clara Cronin put up 16 digs while Ava Bradbury had had six total blocks.

The Panther battled through the first set and opened a late lead to set up set point at 24-20. Back-to-back blocks helped the Brewers whittle down the lead to one. Back-to-back aces reversed the set point and clinched the opening set for the visitors.

Jedrzejczak came off the bench in the second set and immediately impacted the game with back-to-back kills. A couple of her service aces fueled a long run at the service line for her that opened the lead to 14-8. She ended up with eight kills and four aces

The Panthers continued to dominate after that, hitting .263 in the second set and .414 in the third. The Brewers were held to .051 hitting in the first set and just six kills in the third as the Panthers took control of the match. The fourth set looked to be the Brewers answer but a 9-1 run from Chapman turned a 10-9 deficit into an 18-11 lead.

Chapman rebounded from a tough SCIAC loss at Pomona-Pitzer and will return to Hutton on Saturday to take on CMS at 3 p.m. The Panthers' seniors will be honored before the match.
