Women's soccer roars back in first home game

The Panthers tied MSOE 1-1 after dominant second half

ORANGE, Calif. — There's something in the air for the 2025 women's soccer team. The Panthers tied the Milwalkee School of Engineering (MSOE) 1-1 at home Friday evening, but were an offside call away from roaring back to win the game in the last three minutes.

Jenna Urrabazo was positioned at the top of the penalty box, and punched the ball in off a free kick from teammate Kate Stenta. She launched the ball like a rocket blasting into space, and Urrabazo punched it into the bottom corner of the net. Immediately, the play was called back. The senior forward was offside, mere inches ahead of the last MSOE defender.

But, the second half was 45 minutes of close calls, almost goals and strong defensive stances. Overall, the Panthers had 20 shots while the Engineering Raiders had just 11. Chapman maintained possession roughly sixty percent of the time, had more corner kicks and more shots on goal.

74 minutes into the game, Nikki Zokaei kicked the ball into the bottom left corner of the net, scoring the long awaited goal that would tie up the game for the Panthers. Perfectly positioned, teammate Sidney Karjian assisted with a cross from the left sideline just outside the goalkeeper box.

In the first half, Milwaukee Engineering forward Rosario Etcheverria Abuin headed the ball into the goal off a free kick. Teammate Elizabeth Kuhn punched a free kick directly to Etcheverria Abuin setting up the Spanish forward for the first goal of the game.

In response, Chapman's head coach TJ Perez made necessary adjustments defensively and the Panthers controlled the ball for roughly two thirds of the second half. Panther goalkeeper Sienna Gomez finished the game with seven saves, including two late in the second half. Overall, Chapman adjusted in game and will look to carry that second half momentum into the remainder of pre-season play.

Chapman will welcome in The Master's University on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Wilson Field.
