Women's soccer falls at home

ORANGE, Calif.— Persistence became the name of the game for Chapman women's soccer when they played The Master's University. The Panthers lost to them 2-1 Wednesday evening at home.

Athena Tsakiris netted the team's lone goal off a free kick from the ten yard line. She brought the Panthers within one in the 63rd minute of the game.

The first half was defined by close calls, as both teams took a combined three shots on goal and 11 in all. Sophomore forward Sidney Karjian almost punched one in early in the first half, but it went wide left, barely missing the net. The Panthers closed out the half in a stalemate 0-0.

The Master's came out firing after halftime and changed the pace of the game. Breanna Farjado and Maddy Traylor scored two goals within nine minutes of each other. 10 minutes later, Chapman finally scored to get back in the game. Throughout the second half, the Panthers had three shots on goal, but it proved too little too late.

Chapman will look to bounce back as they head on the road to face Claremont-Mudd Scripps in their first SCIAC game of 2025. The Athenas and Panthers will face off on Saturday, Sept. 13.
