Adams ' late goal lifts men's soccer in SCIAC opener

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team kicked off SCIAC play against Caltech Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Wilson Field. The Panthers pulled off a nailbiting 2-1 win at home.

Freshmen Oliver Adams netted the game winning goal for the Panthers in the final two minutes of the game after Dylan Paine slipped a pass into the box. Adams beat the keeper 1-on-1 to give the Panthers the late advantage.

The Panthers scored on an own goal in the first three minutes after pressure from Adams, giving Chapman the initial lead. Following the goal, the two teams battled through the rest of the half without finding the net.

Alex Glynn came up with a huge save at the start of the second half, denying a Caltech goal to keep the Panthers ahead 1-0.

Caltech's Ishaan Mantripragada netted a goal with under five minutes left in the game, sending a left-footed shot just under the bar. Chapman found perseverance and fired in the winning goal to bring the Panthers a scrappy 2-1 win.

The Panthers stay home for the week and will face off against La Verne on Saturday Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
