ORANGE, Calif. – Evan White scored three times as the Chapman University soccer team opened its season with a 4-2 loss to Wheaton and a 2-2 draw with DePauw. White's three goals in the opening weekend already equal with freshman year total.
L, 4-2 vs. Wheaton
The Panthers and Thunder met one year ago when Wheaton made the trip to southern California. The two played to a 1-1 draw but Wheaton took the rematch in Chapman's return trip. White scored both goals for Chapman, finding the back of the net in each half.
White's first goal cut the lead in half before halftime as he buried a rebound left in front of the goal. However, Wheaton padded the lead in the 76th and 83rd minutes to take control. White added a late goal with under four minutes left on a cross from Diego Perez.
T, 2-2 vs. DePauw
White looked to be the hero with his third goal of the weekend coming in the 88th minute to break a 1-1 tie. Oliver Adams picked up his first career assist with the pass through the six yard box to White. DePauw answered less than 90 seconds later as Chapman could not clear a rebound. Alex Glynn made two consecutive saves but a third shot found the net to even the game at 2-2.
Glynn made six saves in the contest. Both teams converted penalty kick opportunities in the first half with Reid Leilein scoring his first goal of the season.
The Panthers return home to play Life Pacific on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
