ORANGE, Calif. – The offense broke out to advance through the loser's bracket into the championship round with a 10-1 win over Lewis & Clark. The Panthers sprayed the field with 19 hits to back a two-hitter from Rose Malen.
Malen allowed just two hits – both in the fourth inning. She struck out four and allowed just one unearned run to rebound from Friday's outing against the same team.
While Malen dominated in the circle, the offense immediately went to work behind her. Ilianna Serna – the third batter of the game – went deep with a two-run homer to set the tone for the day. Serna ended up with three hits and three RBIs while Grace Fosselman and Morgan Lastinger also had three hits in the offensive onslaught.
Six different Panthers had multiple hits in the game and seven had at least one RBI. The Panthers hit through the order in the third, plating four runs to go up 6-0. Chapman went on to score every other inning to get to double digits.
Chapman advances to the Regional final for the first time since 2005, which was the Panthers last trip to the World Series. The Panthers must beat the host Linfield twice tomorrow to advance to its first Super Regional.
