ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University fell 7-4 in eight innings to Lewis & Clark in the opening round of the NCAA Regional at Linfield. The Panthers led 4-1 heading into the seventh before the Pios came back to win.
Morgan Lastinger went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, including a solo home run, that boosted the Panthers to a 4-1 lead. Ilianna Serna also had a pair of hits, going 2-for-4 with a single and a double.
Lastinger's home run gave Chapman a 2-0 lead in the second innings. She made it 3-1 with an RBI-single in the sixth and Shea Higa made it 4-1 when she danced around a tag to take home on a double steal.
Jillian Kelly held the Pios to just one run through six innings but the Pios rallied with two outs to tie the game in the seventh. Chapman responded in the bottom of the seventh by loading the bases with one out but a pair of groundouts ended the threat. Lewis & Clark rode the momentum to another three-run rally in the eighth to take the win and advance into the winner's bracket.
Chapman will take on Johnson & Wales in the elimination game tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
