ORANGE, Calif. — Chapman (2-11) baseball fell 9-5 at home Sunday against Willamette (4-4) to round up a four game weekend hosting three different teams at home.
The Panthers had 11 hits on the day, while the team's all-time leader in home runs,
Josh Phillips hit another bomb in the second inning to get the Panthers on the board.
In the fourth inning, Chapman struggled giving up six runs, but came roaring back in the sixth inning.
Brennan Beckley bunted the ball to get the single. With
Thomas Golbranson on third, the bunt proved just enough to get him home and provide much needed momentum for the Panthers making the score 6-3.
Then, Phillips came back up to bat with
Austin Dudas,
Nate Jensen and Br. Beckley all on base. Phillips hit a single out to left center, which brought home Jensen and Br. Beckley. Phillips earned two runs batted in (RBI) and the Panther made the score 6-5 at the end of six innings.
But Willamatte came roaring back scoring three more runs in the top of the seventh giving them a 9-5 lead they would never relinquish. Chapman pitcher
Finean Hunter-Kenney closed out the last two innings with four strikeouts on six at bats.
The Panthers will look to get back on track on Tuesday, Mar. 11 against Dickinson College at Hart Park at 3:00 p.m. PT.
