ORANGE, Calif. – Aram Izmirian took a three-set win on the No. 2 court to clinch a 4-3 upset victory for the Chapman University men's tennis team. The Panthers were facing their fifth top-20 team in the last seven days.
With the match tied at 3-3, only Izmirian was left playing with court two going into a third set. He had dropped the first set and then battled back to a 7-5 win in the second. With momentum on his side, he won 6-2 in the third to clinch the match and the upset victory.
The Panthers had clinched the doubles point with wins on court one and court three. Caleb Wilkins and Ben Jorgenson took the 7-5 win at court one to clinch the point. Wilkins went on to win his singles match on court 1 as he was up in the second set when his opponent retired.
Ma Caldwell claimed the Panthers' third point with a straight set win at No. 6.
The Panthers head out to La Quinta tomorrow to take on Wis.-Whitewater in their first match away from the Anderson Tennis Center.
