ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team fell 6-1 to visiting Denison. Caleb Wilkins took the win in the top singles match, improving to 4-1 on the year.
Wilkins took the rebounded from the first set loss to get the Panthers' lone point. He fell behind with a 6-4 opening set but quickly pulled ahead in the next two to win 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.
The Panthers were playing their third match in three days against opponents ranked in the top-15 in the nation. Four out of Chapman's five opponents have been ranked in the top-40.
Although Chapman dropped the doubles point, Andy Hess and Aram Izmirian took the No. 3 doubles in a 7-5 tiebreaker.
Denison took four of the remaining five singles matches in straight sets to clinch the team victory.
Chapman continues its run of five matches in five days against five top-20 opponents with No. 19 Amherst tomorrow at 1 p.m.
