Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Women's water polo dominates and holds ground in double header

ORANGE, Calif.— Chapman women's water polo served as a host site once again for day two of the 2025 Claremont Convergence. The Panthers split their two games dominating against UC Merced and narrowly falling to Concordia University Irvine by just one goal.

Against UC Merced, Chapman pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 15-8. Late in the third, the team trailed by two points. But, star senior attacker Alyssa Fricker did as she always does, and put away nine goals in just one game. That is the second most goals scored in a single game in program history. Fricker only trails Sabrina Cook, who had 10 goals in a single game in 2009. As a whole, Fricker's dominance trickled down the rest of the team, as Kendall Pappan netted five goals of her own to go along with two assists.

Defensively against Merced, Zoey Francis also did as she does, earning 16 saves for the game. Kate Launius also contributed three assists to go along with three steals. The Panthers kept UC Merced scoreless in the fourth quarter while they went on an absolute tear offensively.

Against Concordia, the Panthers held their own and kept the game close falling 12-11. Fricker netted six goals to start off the day with three assists and one steal. Pappan closely followed, netting four goals of her own to go along with two steals. The two also had a combined seven earned ejections on the day. In the goal. Francis recorded another 13 saves.

Unfortunately, CUI proved to be just a bit too much for the Panthers to handle. But, Chapman's Fricker closed out the four game weekend with 26 goals across for games, while Francis had 63 saves across those games. Pappan followed suit, netting 10 goals throughout the weekend, nine of which came in Saturday's games.

The four games in the last two days have proved to be great training ground for Chapman as they gear up for SCIAC play. The Panthers will begin conference play against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday, Mar. 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Allred Aquatics Center.
