ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University baseball team dropped its series finale against Piedmont on Sunday, 4-2. The Panthers were swept in the season-opening series.
The Panthers left five runners on base through the first three innings and left nine on throughout the game as the Lions took game three. Piedmont scored twice in the fourth and then once in the fifth and sixth for a 4-0 lead.
Max Toporek and Austin Dudas came through with RBI singles in the seventh before a pitching change resulted in an inning-ending pop out. Dudas led the offense with five hits on the weekend after going 2-for-5 on Sunday.
Jordan Kingston came out of the bullpen to toss three innings of one-run ball. He struck out one and allowed just one hit in his first career appearance. In the eighth, he worked his way around two errors and a dropped third strike to keep the Lions within striking distance.
The Panthers will look to turn things around in an early season SCIAC series with nationally-ranked Pomona-Pitzer. The Panthers host the Sagehens on Friday before heading to Claremont for the conclusion on Saturday.
