ORANGE, Calif. – The early season slide continued for the Chapman University baseball team with a 13-2 loss to Pomona-Pitzer in the opening game of a three-game SCIAC series.
The Sagehens took advantage of 11 free passes to plate 13 runs on just eight hits. Four Panther pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts, including four from Luke Bradley in two innings of relief.
The Sagehens jumped on top early as they loaded the bases on two walks and a hit by pitch. A bouncer to second was enough to drive in a run before Henry Chabot was able to close down the rally by striking out the side. However, Pomon-Pitzer tacked on three more runs in the second and two more in the fifth before getting seven in the final two frames.
The Panthers did cut the lead down with a sacrifice fly from Andrew Powers in the second and an RBI-single from Joey Capobianco in the fourth but left 10 runners on base through out the game and struck out 12 times.
Chapman and Pomona-Pitzer finish the SCIAC series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Pomona-Pitzer at 11 a.m.
