ORANGE, Calif. — Chapman women's basketball will celebrate 2026 in style as they dominated Crown College 71-47 at home Wednesday. Chapman never trailed in the game, and at one point went on a 18-0 scoring run in second quarter.
The Panthers recorded a season high 13 steals along with causing Crown to commit 21 turnovers. Chapman scored 31 points off those turnovers and held Crown to just 12 percent shooting in the fourth quarter.
Offensively,
Layla Woods led the way for the Panthers netting 22 points along with 15 rebounds. Four players in total scored in double figures including Woods (22),
Makena Nitao (14),
Kira Watanabe (11) and
Aidan Sherfey (10) to combine for 57 of the team's total points. Chapman also had 47 rebounds along with 20 total assists.
The kept Crown College to just 26.8 percent shooting from the field and 22.2 percent from behind-the-arc. The victory served as Chapman's most dominant win of the season thus far. They now sit at 6-3 overall and 1-1 in SCIAC play.
Chapman will tip off 2026 on Saturday, Jan. 3 hosting SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran at home at 4:00 p.m.
