ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University football team celebrated Homecoming with a dominant 27-0 victory over Redlands for the first shutout since 2023. Kade Zimmerman caught three touchdown passes and the defense allowed less than 100 yards as Chapman cruised to the win.
The Panthers dominated in all three facets of the game. They finished with over-400 yards of total offense and allowed Redlands to gain less than 100 yards. Brendon Manzano also gained over-100 yards on special teams.
Tyler Pacheco had his best passing game of the season, completing 15-of-21 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns. All of his TDs went to Zimmerman, who caught seven total passes for 133 yards.
Zimmerman caught a 21-yard touchdown pass and a 40-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter with the two catches coming just over one minute apart. He added on a 39-yard touchdown catch in the third to finish off the scoring. Pacheco also ran for a 1-yard TD to cap off Chapman's first drive.
The Panthers defense held Redlands to just 5-of-19 in the passing game and stifled the run all night. Redlands netted 30 rushing yards on 27 carries and gained just 41 yards through the air. The defense came away with four sacks and 10 tackles for loss. Caleb Padrid also brought in a tipped pass for Chapman's first interception of the year.
Manzano made the most of his one chance at a kick return, taking the opening kickoff back 54 yards to set the Panthers up in Redlands territory to start the game. He later returned a punt 36 yards to again set up Chapman in prime field position. He returned four punts for an average of 9.5 yards.
Redlands gained just four first downs in the game – only one of which came in the first half – for a new program-best. The four first downs allowed beat the previous record of seven allowed to Occidental in 2018.
After back-to-back wins at home to open SCIAC play, the Panthers head out on the road for a crucial Surf Division battle against Pomona-Pitzer. The rematch of the last two SCIAC Championship games is the first of two meetings between to the two teams this year.
