ORANGE, Calif. – Olivia Harrison had 11 kills and three solo blocks but the Chapman University women's volleyball team fell 25-12, 25-22, 25-22 to visiting Whittier. Chapman fell to 1-2 in the SCIAC and 6-6 overall.
The Poets jumped out to an early lead in the first and second sets to take control of the match. The Poets scored the first five points of the first set and first four points of the second, staying in control throughout both sets to take the 2-0 lead in the match.
Chapman fought back in the third with an early 6-2 lead, looking to avoid the sweep. The lead grew to 15-10 before Whittier went on a five-point run to tie the set at 15-15. After trading a few points, Whittier went on another four-point run to make it 20-15 and held on for the sweep.
Chapman's middles had half of the team's kills on the night, collecting 17 kills on 32 swings. Harrrison's team-best 11 kills came on .476 hitting while Ava Bradbury hit .545 with six kills and no errors. Bradbury had three total blocks while Harrison had four total blocks, including three solo.
The Poets had four aces with just two serving errors and did not get aced in the sweep. They hit .224 as a team with Malena The leading the way with 13 kills.
Chapman heads to Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday for a 4 p.m. match but returns to the Hutton Sports Center on Tuesday to take on CMS at 7 p.m.
