Game Recap: Men's Water Polo | | Gabrielle Ducharme

Castillo leads men's water polo in win over La Verne

ORANGE, Calif.— Chapman men's water polo dominated in a 22-12 win over La Verne Wednesday evening at home. Davin Castillo led the way, putting up numbers that mirror a solid basketball game. Castillo went for three goals, seven assists and six steals on the night. The seven assists and six steals are a season-high for the All-American.

Along Castillo, center Nathan Jones netted three additional goals. River Lyon, Daniel Franks, Matthew Cormican, Sammy Hendrickson and Luke Stiebel all also netted two goals each. Boston Fisher, Weston Hamson, Jack Baker, Isaac Solberg and Rylan Takahashi all netted a goal each.

Sahak Abrahamyan added another three assists and Hamson had two of his own. Overall, Chapman had a season best 19 assists for the game. Defensively, starting goalkeeper Jackson Sanders had eight saves in three quarters. In the fourth, David Yacoub checked in for Sanders and had another five saves. His final one came off a five meter shot attempt by La Verne. Yacoub leaped roughly three feet out of the water to stop the ball in it's tracks, slapping the ball down into the water.

Chapman had 41 total points along with nine earned ejections. The Panthers now sit at fourth in the conference at 6-11 overall, 2-0 in SCIAC play. The Panthers will look to continue their momentum as they head on the road to play at Occidental College on Saturday, Oct 18.
