ORANGE, Calif. – A strong performance from the outside hitters led the Chapman University volleyball team to a SCIAC- and home-opening sweep of Cal Lutheran on Saturday. Brooke Leslie and Olivia Sampson combined for 25 kills.
In their first home match and SCIAC match of the season, the Panthers came out hot and continued to play some of their best volleyball of the season in a sweep of Cal Lutheran. Chapman won the opening set 25-13 and rode the momentum to a 25-13, 25-18, 25-23 sweep.
Sampson led the way with 13 kills on .267 hitting while Leslie had 12 kills and hit .290. The Panthers also had seven blocks, led by four from Olivia Harrison.
The Panthers hit .273 in the opening set and .344 in the second set to set the tone for the sweep. The Regals had just seven kills in the first set while hitting .000 and did not eclipse .200 in either of the following sets.
The Panthers head to La Verne on Tuesday and return home on Friday to take on Redlands at 7 p.m.
