Second half turnaround secures win in SCIAC-opener

Pilar Vanhuesden and Jenna Urrabazo led the Panthers to the 4-2 win.

ORANGE, Calif. – A three-goal second half led the Chapman University women's soccer team to a 4-2 comeback win over Redlands in the SCIAC opener for both teams. Pilar Vanhuesden scored twice while Jenna Urrabazo assisted on two and scored one of her own in the victory.

The Panthers returned home with another offensive show. In two home matches this season, Chapman has exploded for nine goals while allowing just two.

The Urrabazo-to-Vanhuesden connection put the Panthers on the board just 3:40 into the match as a through ball found Vanhuesden at an extreme angle. She was able to find the far side netting over the keepers head for a 1-0 lead.

The Urrabazo-to-Harper connection was on display in the second half when Urrabazo's corner kick found Harper on the back post for the equalizer. The Bulldogs scored two goals in a two minute span in the first half to take the halftime lead.

Vanhuesden scored the game-winner in the 77th minute as she corralled a loose ball in the box and tapped it past the keeper for the 3-2 lead. Urrabazo added the insurance with a strike from 20 yards out just a few minutes later.

The Panthers outshot the Bulldogs 18-8 and put 10 of their shots on goal. Shannon Stewart made six saves for the Bulldogs while Aaliyah Bustamante made three for the Panthers.

Chapman stay home this weekend to host CMS in a primetime SCIAC battle. The Panthers and Athenas meet at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
