ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team fell 3-0 to visiting CMS on Saturday. The Panthers fell to 2-2-1 and 1-1 in the SCIAC.
CMS scored a goal in the first and two more in the second to take the SCIAC win. The Panthers created opportunities in both haves but were unable to get past Andra Marinescu, who made five saves for the Athenas.
Emma Harper nearly drew the Panthers even early in the second half with a header on the back post but Marinescu was perfectly positioned to make the save. Karys McKinney had another equalizing opportunity less than 10 minutes later but a diving shave kept the Panthers off the board.
CMS shot 11 times to the Panthers' 10 but both teams put five on goal. The Athenas earned four corners to Chapman's one.
Chapman heads out to take on the defending national champions, Cal Lutheran on Wednesday night before returning home for another primetime matchup against Pomona-Pitzer at 7:30 p.m.
