MARSHALL, Texas – Jillian Kelly took a no-hitter into the fifth inning as the Chapman University softball team advanced with a 5-1 win over Simmons. The Panthers advanced to play Texas Lutheran in the elimination game.

Both pitchers dominated the early goings of the game and combined for 18 strikeouts as both tossed complete games. Kelly struck out a career-high 11 batters as she limited Simmons to just one run on four hits.

Morgan Lastinger put the Panthers on the board with a two-run double in the fourth. With Kelly cruising it looked as though the two runs would be enough. The Sharks rallied in the sixth with a pair of singles to put runners on the corners, scoring one on a sacrifice fly.

Kelly was able to limit the damage to just one run and the Panthers responded in the seventh with three runs. Mia Reyes knocked in a pair when she dropped a base hit on the left field line and stretched the hit into a triple. She later scored on an error.

The Panthers rematch with Texas Lutheran in the elimination game with a chance to advance to tomorrow's regional championship.
