MARSHAL, Texas – The season came to an end for the Chapman University softball team after a tough 3-1 loss to Texas Lutheran. The Panthers outhit the Bulldogs but couldn't push across a run until the seventh inning in the loss.
Chapman rallied with two outs in the seventh with
Miranda Murphy doubling to extend the game.
Mia Reyes' fourth hit of the game brought in Murphy and
Grace Fosselman followed with a single to bring the winning run to the plate. TLU closed the door with a fly ball into left to end the game.
With Reyes leading the way with four hits, the Panthers had 12 hits in the game but left nine runners on base in the game. In the third, Chapman loaded the bases with no outs. Three consecutive ground balls ended the inning with no damage done to keep TLU ahead 1-0 at the time.
Ella Milante went 1-for-3 and shined behind the plate, throwing out all three Bulldogs attempting to steal second. She neutralized TLU on the basepaths, throwing out four over two games. The Bulldogs had been caught stealing just 16 times in 248 attempts this season.
The Panthers season comes to a close with the loss with a 27-15 record. Their win over Simmons was the Panthers' first postseason win since 2007 over Trinity.
