MARSHALL, Texas – The Chapman University softball team fell 4-0 to Texas Lutheran in the opener of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. The Panthers committed four errors as the Bulldogs put up all of their runs in the first two innings.
After a lengthy rain and lightning delay that [ushed the first pitch back seven hours, the Panthers struggled defensively in the first few innings. Three errors in the first two innings led to three unearned runs as TLU took the early lead.
The Panthers' offense had four hits, including a double from
Mo Lynch.
Rose Malen struck out four and walked three while allowing just one earned run on six hits. As the Panthers defense settle, Malen also settled in the circle to keep Chapman in the game.
The Panthers will take on Simmons, who was run-ruled by ETBU in the early game, at 11:30 a.m. (PT). It will be the first elimination game of the tournament with the winner playing immediately after against the loser of the ETBU-TLU game.
