REDLANDS, Calif. — Softball fell to the Redlands Bulldogs in the SCIAC Championship game, 6-0, on Sunday, May 12.
After two hits in the first inning, the Panthers went hitless until the seventh inning. Chapman had a bases-loaded one-out situation in the first but failed to score.Â
Redlands hit the ball hard all game, recording 11 hits in the contest. They started the game with a two-run blast in the first, then opened it up in the fourth with a four-run inning.Â
Rose Malen started in the circle, and her streak of 10-straight scoreless innings ended, allowing five earned through three-plus innings pitched. Jillian Kelly finished the game in the circle with four innings of one-run ball.
The Panthers' season rests in the hands of the NCAA Division III Softball Selection Committee. Chapman softball ranks fifth in Region 10 and is the highest-ranked team without a conference tournament victory. They'll have a shot to receive an at-large bid during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show tomorrow, May 13, at 8 a.m. The show can be streamed live on ncaa.com.
