ORANGE, Calif. – Another third quarter run put the match away as the Chapman University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 19-3 victory over Whittier, The Panthers improved to 3-1 on the season and in the SCIAC.
Olivia Holmes led a four of Panthers with at least a hat trick in the convincing victory. Holmes scored four and assisted on two more while Madi Escobar scored four times as well. Annika Carlson and Tade Scheid each scored three times and assisted on one more.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first quarter but the Poets made a game of it as they scored three times in the second to make it just a four-goal halftime lead.
Chapman came out strong in the second half for the second match in row, holding Whittier scoreless in the second half while finding the back of the net 12 times to pull away.
The Poets' keeper Peyton Venatter made 14 saves in the first three quarters but Whittier managed just nine shots in the match compared to Chapman's 42. The Panthers also won 16 draw controls to outpace Whittier's 10.
Chapman heads out to Redlands on Saturday for a rescheduled 2 p.m. match to conclude the first section of SCIAC play before jumping into some non-conference matches.
