ORANGE, Calif. – For the seventh match in a row, the Chapman University women's water polo team cam away victorious. The Panthers won 10-6 over visiting Whittier to improve to 12-8 on the season and 6-1 in the SCIAC.
Kendall Pappan and Alyssa Fricker led the Panthers to the victory as the two combined for nine goals while Callie Malone scored Chapman's 10th.
Chapman overcame a slow start to the game on a cold, rainy morning at Allred Pool. Candace Tezak made eight saves in the first half to hold Chapman to just one goal from Pappan in the first half. The Poets found the back of the net once in each quarter to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Pappan quickly put the Panthers on top in the third quarter as she scored twice in the first three minutes for a 3-2 lead. Fricker scored her first goal on Chapman's next possession to make it 4-2 and the Panthers never trailed again.
Both Fricker and Pappan added another goal in the third as Pappan scored at the buzzer to make it a six-goal quarter and a 7-4 Chapman lead.
Georgina Burton made eight saves after making 11 on Friday night and shutting out UC Merced over three quarters.
The Panthers are back in action at Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday before returning home on Saturday to take on La Verne and celebrate Senior Day at 11 a.m.
