THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Despite a strong start and halftime lead, men's hoops fell 85-76 in the SCIAC semifinals to Cal Lutheran on the road Friday, Feb. 23 evening.
Chapman led by as many as eight early on, behind strong explosive scoring outbursts from McKelary Robertson and Jake Heberle. The duo combined to shoot 13-25, 40 points, and would givegiving Chapman a 41-37 lead going into the break.
The Panthers held their lead through the first 10 minutes of the second half, but the 2650 strong at Gilbert Arena helped the Kingsmen to a 13-0 run that gave Cal Lu a nine pointnine-point lead, and despite Chapman getting within three with under four to play, was the difference in the contest.
Robertson finished with 23, Heberle added 17, and Blakeley Stoughton scored 14. The Panthers' Tyler Dutto and Christian Bood combined for the Panthers' 15 bench points. Chapman got only seven total points from its frontcourt, all scored by Bood.
The Panthers end the season 15-11 and fourth in the SCIAC.
