ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's basketball team heads into finals week with a 7-1 overall record and a perfect 2-0 record in the SCIAC with an 80-49 win over Caltech on Saturday. The Panthers finished off a SCIAC week sweep with both the men's and women's programs winning all four games this week.
Jake Hebele led the way with 16 points, shooting 6-for-7 on the night with a pair of three pointers. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Murphy Caffo added in 15 points. Adam Damian scored six points and grabbed five rebounds with three assists but showed a plus-27 on the box score as he helped the Panthers to the decisive victory.
The outcome was never in much doubt as the Panthers built a 16-3 lead over the first six minutes and ballooned the lead to 38-22 by halftime. The lead grew to 20 points in the first three minutes of the second half and stayed at 20-plus for the rest of the night.
Defensively, the Panthers allowed the least number of points they have allowed all season. The forced 16 turnovers from the Beavers, who were led by 14 points off the bench from Josh Balami.
Chapman goes into a break during finals week and will next take the court on Dec. 16 for a rematch with UC Santa Cruz. Chapman defeated the Slugs in Santa Cruz in the opening week of the season but will host the second matchup at 5 p.m.
