Orange, Calif.— Chapman women's basketball (5-6, 2-0 SCIAC) dominated at home against Brooklyn College (5-5, 1-0) 94-60. The team came out on a mission, led by
Maile Nakaji's scoring outburst and
Shanna Brown's monster double-double. Nakaji had a career high 24 points off six made three-pointers while going 9/13 from the field overall. Brown put up 19 of her own to go along with 13 boards and five assists.
The two-headed monsters guard and forward combo led a team that shot 52 percent from the field while gobbling up 16 offensive rebounds. Those statistics, while impressive in their own right, can't hold a candle to the assists. The Panthers recorded 32 which now ranks seventh most in a single game in NCAA Division III for the 2024-25 season.
Defensively, the Panthers held Brooklyn College to just 31.6 percent shooting, and 11 points in the opening quarter of play. Chapman had 10 steals. Brooklyn College committed 15 turnovers and the Panthers scored 17 points off those turnovers.
Layla Woods (16) and
Kali Cajala (12) put a combined 28 points, with Woods adding seven rebounds of her own.
Kira Watanabe sank three 3-pointers for nine point as a cherry on top.
The Panthers wrapped up 2024 in their most dominant victory of the season. They will have one week off before heading on the road to get in the thick of SCIAC play at Cal Lutheran on Jan. 4, 2025 at 4:00 p.m.
