Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer postseason run comes to an end in championship match

After back-to-back upsets, the Panthers fell CMS.

CLAREMONT, Calif. – A magical run for the Chapman University men's soccer team came to an end with a 5-1 loss in the SCIAC Tournament Championship to second-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The fifth-seeded Panthers pulled off back-to-back upsets over Cal Lutheran and top-seeded Redlands to make it to the final round.

CMS left little doubt and wasted no time in putting the match out of reach. The first goal came in the first two minutes of the match and the lead grew to 4-0 by the midway point of the first half.

After CMS struck again in the second, Cooper Haley put Chapman on the board when he fired a shot into the upper left corner from 20 yards out. The Stags were able to hold off the Panthers for the seven minutes and claim the SCIAC Tournament title.

With the loss, the Panthers season comes to a close with a 6-9-6 overall record. Chapman made its third SCIAC Tournament Championship Match appearance in the last six season.
