THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – A pair of second half goals fueled a comeback victory for the Chapman University men's soccer team over Cal Lutheran in the SCIAC Tournament First Round. The fifth-seeded Panthers pulled off the upset after trailing at halftime.
Both Panther goals came just over 10 minutes apart to open the second half and erase the 1-0 halftime deficit. Jonah Friang equalized for the Panthers less than 30 seconds out of halftime. A cross from Garrett Lindfelt found Friang alone in the box and he pushed it to the far post to draw even.
With momentum on their side the Panthers found the go-ahead goal 10 minutes later. A long throw in from Cooper Haley settled at the feet of Evan White, who turned and quickly fired off a left-footed shot past the keeper for a 2-1 lead.
Alex Glynn made five saves in the match, including three in the second half to advance the Panthers to Thursday's Semifinal round at Redlands.
The Panthers continued to push forward in the second half, outshooting the Kingsmen 7-6 in the final half while protecting the 2-1 lead.
Chapman has now won three consecutive SCIAC Tournament matches heading into Thursday's semifinal at 7 p.m. The Panthers fell 1-0 in their first match at Redlands in September.
