ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 loss to Whittier. The Panthers finished the season in fifth place in the SCIAC and will advance to the SCIAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed.
After falling 3-0 on Saturday, the Panthers will get a third match against the Poets as they trave to Whittier for the first-ever SCIAC First Round match. The winner will advance to play top-seeded Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday.
The Panthers controlled possession early as they looked for an early goal on Senior Day. However, it was the Poets that struck first. Whittier went on to score three times in the first half and held off Chapman in the final 45 minutes to lock up the No. 4 seed in next week's SCIAC Tournament.
The new format for the SCIAC Tournament will feature the Panthers and Poets in the First Round on Mondy before moving into the Semifinal round on Wednesday and the Championship Match on Saturday.
