CLAREMONT, Calif. – The fifth-seeded Chapman University women's volleyball team fell to fourth-seeded Pomona-Pitzer in the First Round of the SCIAC Tournament. The Sagehens advanced to the semifinals with a 25-15, 25-13, 25-21 victory.
A nine-point run in the first set gave Pomona-Pitzer a 20-10 advantage and put Chapman in an early hole. After dropping the first set, the Panthers struggled through the second as Pomona-Pitzer took a commanding lead. The third set remained close until the end when Pomona-Pitzer pulled away to secure the sweep.
Olivia Sampson led the Panthers with eight kills in the three-set match. Hannah Callahan had three blocks and Gabby Carbonel had nine assists in the final match for the two seniors.
The Sagehens hit .312 to key the sweep while holding Chapman to hitting .132.
The Panthers' season comes to a close with a 12-16 record after the SCIAC Tournament First Round loss.
