ORANGE, Calif. – Olivia Sampson and Kaylee Koerth combined for 34 kills in a 25-16, 17-25, 25-19, 25-22 win over visiting Occidental. The Panthers won for the fourth time in five matches to improve to 12-12 on the season and 7-6 in the SCIAC.
Chapman rolled in the first set after a Senior Day pre-match celebration. However, the Panthers hit a road block in the second set as they hit .000 and recorded just eight kills in the set. After Oxy tied up the match at one set apiece, Chapman fell behind again in the third.
The Tigers jumped out to a 10-6 lead but Chapman was able to go on a five-point run to jump in front 12-11. Koerth took over in the third set as she recorded eight of her 17 kills to lead the Panthers to the set win. Sampson added in six of her 17 as the Panthers hit .395 as a team.
With another six kills from Koerth and five from Sampson in the fourth set, the Panthers were able to hold off the Tigers for the win. Olivia Harrison added in four of her five kills in the fourth to help the Panthers clinch.
Occidental found the hot hands on the outside as well as Ariana Carranza had 15 kills while Kaelyn Cajigas added in 13. Leena Albelo had 29 digs.
The Panthers put up seven total blocks, led by five total blocks from Annika Ruud.
Chapman heads to Caltech on Saturday and is back home on Tuesday for the final home match of the regular season.
