ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University volleyball team fell in five sets to visiting Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday. The Panthers suffered a 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 15-12 loss to drop to 1-4 in SCIAC play.
For the second time in as many home matches, the Panthers dropped forced a fifth set but ultimately fell. Olivia Harrison had 16 kills out of the middle while hitting .519 over the Sagehens. Brooke Leslie added 16 kills on .218 hitting while  Olivia Sampson hit 14 kills with a .308 hitting percentage.
Harrison added five total blocks, including a pair of solo blocks, while Sampson led four Panthers in double digits with 19 digs.
Similar to their first home match, the Panthers took the first set but dropped the second. Pomona-Pitzer went on to take the third but Chapman fought back in the fourth with a .419 hitting percentage in the set.
Pomona-Pitzer was able to jump out to the early lead in the fifth behind the arms of Paige Mountanos. She had six kills in their first eight points of the set to lead the Sagehens to an 8-3 advantage. Mountanos had 28 kills in total to go along with 14 digs and pair of blocks.
Down 12-7, Chapman went on a four-point scoring run with Sammy Chambers at the service line to get back within one. However, the Sagehens scored three of the last four points to take the match.
Chambers and Gabby Carbonel split 49 assists and led the Panthers to a .278 hitting percentage as a team.
Chapman head out on the road on Friday but returns home Saturday to take on Caltech at 4 p.m.
