ORANGE, Calif.— Chapman (11-11, 5-6 SCIAC) fought back to regain momentum late, but lost narrowly three sets to one against No.13 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (CMS) (16-4, 10-1 SCIAC) Saturday evening at home.
Despite falling in the first set, the Panthers can roaring back in the second set to win 26-24 and tie up the match at 1-1. Junior
Olivia Sampson led the way for the Panthers with 17 kills, while senior
Gabby Carbonel led the way 17 assists.
In the last two sets, the Panthers lost by an average of just three points. Chapman mounted a comeback in the final set to lead 24-23, but the Athenas proved to be just too strong, taking the game and the match soon there after.
Chapman put up a strong fight defensively, with 10 blocks on the evening and will look to bounce back on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont.
