ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo team fell 15-9 to visiting Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday. An early deficit proved to be too much to overcome in the second half.
The Sagehens wasted no time taking the initial lead with goals on their first two possessions and rolled to an 11-3 lead by halftime. The Panthers made things interesting in the third as both teams switched goalies and Chapman came away with a 5-0 advantage in the quarter.
With the deficit down to 11-8, the Sagehens took charge again in the fourth to put the game away.
Three Panthers scored a pair of goals to lead the attack. Christian Gotterup scored a goal and assisted on three more. Oli Chelsom made four saves in the second half as the Panthers attempted the comeback.
Chapman heads out on the road next week for a SCIAC match at Cal Lutheran on Wednesday and then travels cross country to Harvard for a midseason tournament.
