ORANGE, Calif. — Men's basketball dropped its second consecutive SCIAC contest on Saturday, Jan. 27 afternoon, 73-67, this time to the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen.
The Panthers started off strong against the No. 14 Kingsmen, leading 21-19 midway through the first half. Murphy Caffo had his way in the paint early, scoring six of the Panthers' first 16 points – he finished with eight.
McKelary Robertson flashed his quickness getting to the basket on offense, going 7-of-12 from the field for 18 points. He knocked down four triples at a 57% clip.
While they trailed for the entirety of the second half, the Panthers made a late push, cutting the Kingsmen lead to three, 57-54, following a Robertson triple. Cal Lutheran followed with a 10-1 run to seal the win.
The Panthers now drop to fifth in the SCIAC (11-8, 5-5), trailing Occidental by one game. They'll look to pick up a conference win on Wednesday, Jan. 31, against Caltech in Pasadena at 7 p.m.
