CLAREMONT, Calif. – Julin Kenison began the year with All-Tournament honors as the Chapman University women's volleyball team went 2-1 in the opening weekend. Kenison hit .224 on the weekend and added a team-best four aces.
The Panthers started the season with a five-set win over Nebraska Wesleyan with Kenison leading the way with 17 kills. She also served up a pair of aces and tallied 19 digs. Kenison added 15 kills in a four-set win over Illinois Tech and 16 more in a four-set loss to Carthage.
After going back and forth in the first four sets with Nebraska Wesleyan, the Panthers jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the fifth set to take the deciding set and the match. The Panthers dropped the first set to Illinois Tech but won the next three convincingly, holding IIT to .190 hitting while hitting .255 as a team.
Chapman won its first set against Carthage but the Firebirds went on to hit .316 in the match while limiting the Panthers to .169. Kenison still hit 16 kills with a pair of aces.
The Panthers continues their early season road trip next week at the Whittier College Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
