ORANGE, Calif. – After a back and forth second half, the Chapman University women's soccer team ended its battle with George Fox in a 2-2 draw. Pilar Vanheusden scored her second goal of the weekend to help the Panthers to the draw.
George Fox put Chapman in its first deficit of the season with a goal in the 10th minute of the match. A through ball from Kayleigh Gugliotta was buried into the upper right corner by Becca Kuzak. The Bruins were able to hold on for the halftime lead despite Chapan outshooting them 6-3 in the opening 45 minutes
A misplay in the back for George Fox led to the Panthers tying the match at 1-1. As Emma Harper tried to send in a pass over the top of the defense, a clearance attempt ended up floating back over the keeper and into an empty net to make it 1-1 with just under a half hour to go.
Just over five minutes later, Jenna Urrabazo created another opportunity as she played herself behind the final defender and sent a cross into the box where Vanheusden was waiting to bury a shot into a wide open net for a 2-1 lead.
The Bruins were able to earn the draw with a goal off a free kick with just over nine minutes to go. Willa Evans floated the free kick just under the crossbar from about 35 yards out to knot the match at 1-1.
Maya Ford and Aaliyah Bustamante each made a save for the Panthers while George Fox's Emili Robey came up with six saves to keep her team in the match.
The Panthers remain at home to take on Texas Lutheran on Sep. 10 at 11 a.m. before heading into conference play.
