ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo team dropped its home-opener 16-5 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Panthers fell to 1-1 in the SCIAC while CMS improved to 2-0.
The Stags took an early lead and never relinquished it in the 16-5 win. CMS was up 4-0 in the first seven minutes of the game before Hudson Pak put Chapman on the board with a 6-on-5 goal. The Stags added a late goal as Chapman trailed 5-1 after the first quarter.
CMS continued to pull away with four goals in the second, three more in the third and four in the fourth. Three of Chapman's five goal came in the second quarter as Nate Randolph tossed in a no-look goal from the set while Daniel Franks and Dylan Gallegos each found the back of the net.
Ben Blatt made five saves for the Panthers after he entered the match in the second half while Aidan Nettekoven made 13 saves for the Stags. Auggie Aliaga scored four times to lead the Stags.
The Panthers head to the Gary Troyer Tournament this weekend for four games before returning to SCIAC play next Wednesday at Occidental.
