Johnson powers women's volleyball past Redlands

ORANGE, Calif. — Women's volleyball took home a 3-2 win over Redlands to collect its first SCIAC victory of the season.

The back-and-forth contest saw the Panthers leading after three sets, 2-1, but Redlands fought hard in the fourth forcing the winner-take-all fifth set.

Marly Johnson led the way for the Panthers with 21 kills, the most in her Chapman career. Most notably six kills in the decisive fifth set which helped the Panthers come back from a 9-7 deficit to begin the frame.

Julin Kenison added 13 kills on the evening, and was the only other Panther with double-digit kills.

Redlands out hit the Panthers .260-.221, but the Panthers stayed in the game acing the Bulldogs 11 times, including three from Johnson and two from Hannah Callahan and Brooke Leslie.

Chapman, now 5-6 overall and 1-1 in SCIAC play, returns to Hutton next Friday in a tough test against No. 24 La Verne.
