ORANGE, Calif. — Women's soccer cruised to a season-opening win Friday, Sept 1., topping the Willamette Bearcats 2-0.
Chapman scored on two nearly identical plays. Two corner kicks off the foot of Chaslyn Nestor.Â
The first came in the third minute of the game when the left-footed Nestor curved it into the box for Emma Harper who finished the play with a header.
While that was all the Panthers would need — putting up a great defensive performance holding the Bearcats to only five shots, three of them on goal — they added another goal early in the second half for good measure.
In the 50th minute Nestor kicked another beauty, this one ricocheted around the defense a bit before finding Pilar Vanheusden for the Panthers' second goal.
Vanheusden played a stellar game, rocketing off four shots on goal. The Panthers would out-shoot the Bearcats 23-5.
Defensively, Aaliyah Bustamante started in her first career game in goal and collected three saves.
Chapman, now 1-0 on the season, will return to Wilson Field on Sunday, Sept. 3 to take on George Fox at 11 a.m.
