Volleyball celebrates Homecoming with sixth straight home win

Box Score

ORANGE, Calif. – Less than 24 hours after suffering its first SCIAC loss of the season at Cal Lutheran on Friday night, the Chapman University volleyball team bounced back with a strong four-set (21-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-19) Homecoming win over visiting Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday afternoon at the Hutton Sports Center.

The win extends the Panthers' six-match home winning streak and gives them a two-game advantage in sole possession of second place in the SCIAC standings over the third-place Sagehens.

Chapman (13-6 overall, 6-1 SCIAC) appeared sluggish in the first set after the late-night loss and return commute from Thousand Oaks the previous night. Pomona-Pitzer (9-6 overall, 4-3 SCIAC) led almost the entire first set and withstood a late Chapman rally to win 25-21.

From there, the Panthers and junior MB Val Geiger took over. The All-American led all players with 27 kills and added five blocks (two solo, three assists) as Chapman cruised through the final three sets. Defensively, junior libero Andi Frisina earned a team-high 24 digs.

Senior S Corrine Ostrovsky collected 51 assists for Chapman giving her 3,701 for her career – just 28 assists shy of the Panthers' all-time record held by Kat Kowalski '11.

Chapman's recent home court advantage – six wins in a row and 18 of 19 – will be put on hold as it hits the road for its next four matches. The Panthers will travel to Occidental College on Tuesday which will officially mark the end of the first half of the SCIAC schedule.
