ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University baseball team
dropped it second consecutive decision to West Region rival
University of La Verne with a 7-2 loss at Hart Park on Saturday
night. The Leopards swept the home-and-home season series this week
after winning 7-6 on Thursday in La Verne.
Chapman (5-4) was held to a season-low five hits - all singles -
and just two fifth-inning runs. The Panthers had trailed 2-0 in the
fifth when sophomore IF Tyler Hadzinsky ripped a
RBI single off the first baseman's glove. Chapman scored its second
run of the inning when senior IF Tristan Phillips
scored on a wild pitch. Phillips was 2-for-3 to lead Chapman
offensively.
Sophomore RHP Jordan Sigman pitched into the
seventh inning, but was in and out of trouble most of the game
allowing eight hits and five walks in 6 1/3 innings. The righty
suffered his first loss of the season (2-1).
Victor Pinado and Kevin Ibarra
each hit solo home runs for La Verne (2-2), which never trailed in
the game. The pair combined to go 4-for-5 with four runs scored.
RHP Tim Jolly struck out seven batters in 4 2/3
innings for the Leopards, but was not around for the decision.
The Panthers fell to 1-2 in home games this season.
