Barron Maizland is in his sixth year as Chapman University's Men's and Women's Assistant Coach for cross country and track & field. Maizland joined the coaching staff in 2018 when the program had 32 total competing athletes and has been instrumental in the program's growth to over 100 student-athletes.

Maizland served as interim head coach in the spring of 2021 during a limited track & field season and resumed his original assistant role for the 2021-2022 year. He also instructs weightlifting courses at Chapman.

In his first cross country season, Maizland coached Arabella Reece to become the first woman and second Panther to qualify for the Division III Cross Country National Championships. In 2021, he had another cross country national qualifier in Maddie Mirro. In 2023, two more individuals, Annika Carlson and Amelia Jauregui, qualified for the national meet, including Annika Carlson, becoming the first All-American in program history.

While Maizland's primary coaching expertise lies in cross country and the distance events from 800m to 10k, he also possesses experience in coaching multis, throws, sprints, hurdles, and jumps.

- 5 years in a row, BOTH Men's and Women's programs have earned the highest team GPAs in Chapman Athletics.

- Women's 5th Place team finish at NCAA West Regional
- Coached All of the top 10 women's team times.
- Coached 9 of the top 10 men's team times, including 1-6 all-time times.
- Coached 14 of the top 20 women's individual 6k times, including 1-7 all-time times.
- Coached 12 of the top 20 men's individual 8k times, including 1-4 all-time times.

Before Chapman, Maizland volunteer coached at his alma mater, CSU Chico, a top-5 NCAA division II cross country program.

Maizland was an accomplished runner at the collegiate and professional level. He was an NCAA Division II All-American in the Steeplechase 2015 for CSU Chico. As a Wildcat, he was a three-time NCAA Nationals qualifier. He was also the 2012 California State Steeplechase Champion at Orange Coast College and holds the school record.

Professionally, Maizland placed runner-up at the 2018 Dutch National Championships in Utrecht, Netherlands. Maizland has since retired from competitive distance running.

Maizland earned his bachelor's degree in Economics from Chico State in 2015. He earned his master's in Leadership Development from Chapman University in 2023. Maizland earned certificates from the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as an Endurance Event Specialist and Strength & Conditioning Coach.
