ORANGE, Calif. – For the second time this week, the Chapman University women's soccer team came away with a 2-0 victory to open up SCIAC play. Chapman defeated visiting La Verne with a goal in each half.
All four goals this week came from different scorers. Today, Pilar Vanheusden's strike from distance put the Panthers on the board in the first half. Grace Vasquez added to the lead with an Olympico late in the second half.
Vanhuesden's opening goal came just 11 minutes into the match. Nikki Zokaei played a ball back to Vanhuesden for the open shot that she placed into the top right corner for a 1-0 lead.
Chapman took the match 2-0 but had plenty more opportunities with 24 shots in the match, including 14 on target. Sofia Penaflor made 12 saves to keep La Verne within striking distance for much of the match.
Sienna Gomez and Bella Barretto split time in goal to post the second combined clean sheet in a row.
The Panthers head to Cal Lutheran on Wednesday and return home next Saturday to take on Whittier at 11 a.m.
