ORANGE, Calif. – Makaylee Dahms clinched a hard-fought 4-3 victory for the Chapman University women's tennis team over Uc Santa Cruz. Four of the six singles matches went into a third set and the clinching match of the doubles point was won 7-5.
The battle started on court two during doubles and continued through singles. Lucy Walling and Chloe McBride went back and fourth with the Banana Slugs on court two but pulled off a 7-5 victory to clinch the doubles point. Chapman's pair on court three won quickly before a tough loss on court one turned all eyes on the middle court.
Malina Dahms quickly put Chapman up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in No. 5 singles. The Banana Slugs countered with a straight set victory on court one.
Wallin, Makaylee Dahms and Tahlia Cahill all went into a third set. Wallin battled back from tough first set to capture the comeback victory – 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Dahms followed with the clinching point with another comeback victory just one court over. She came out on top with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win while the final two courts were still in action.
The Panthers continue a busy weekend with a pair of SCIAC road matches at Caltech on Friday and CMS on Saturday.
